When the team at Northstar developed the ‘explore your world’ concept for our customer Red Paddle Co, it was always meant to be more than a simple marketing slogan. So to bring this philosophy to life we packed our bags and inflatable stand-up paddleboards, to set out on an adventure. The destination was the Kornati National Park in Croatia: an archipelago of 89 islands, often referred to as a nautical paradise because of its sunny climate, clear turquoise water and limestone reefs.
This beautiful location was the ideal backdrop for shooting the 2016 global product catalogue photography, but it also delivered a fantastic opportunity to film an aspirational lifestyle video to boost the brand’s online presence. Using the latest in commercial filmmaking technology, including a drone camera for a birds-eye-view, we highlighted the versatility of these SUPs, while showing off the discoveries we made on the island: including a secret cove – ideal for a beach campfire - and an abandoned soviet submarine base. Our film now holds centre stage on the Red Paddle Board website homepage where it welcomes all potential customers and plunges them directly into the exciting world of SUPing.
In the spring of 2015, Northstar was invited to work with Red Paddle Co, an exciting young company making inflatable stand-up paddleboards. ‘SUP’, as the sport is known, was born towards the end of the last decade and has exploded in the time since. The Red Paddle Co team had been riding the crest of a wave, but when they approached us they’d got to a point where their business had outgrown their brand. They needed a story-led rebrand that would support their global activities and help the company maintain its position as the world’s most popular SUP brand. Northstar’s creative team developed new branding and a story, led by the strapline ‘Explore your world’. An invitation to customers, the line is designed to inspire people from all walks of life to challenge themselves and get closer to nature on a Red Paddle Co board. This philosophy has given the business fresh impetus, and now informs the brand’s marketing and communication strategy, whether that’s in a brochure, on film, or in internal comms.
